Many of us recently have received the email in our inboxes talking about a proposed 28th Amendment to the Constitution. One that would require all members of Congress to abide by all the laws they pass without exception. When I first read this, it reminded me just how backwards some of the things that happen in DC are. I mean, what personal accountability would there be for anyone who was charged with coming up with laws for any organization if they too were not accountable to those same laws. But amazingly, this is how things work in DC.

The body of the email goes something like this:

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States  Constitution:

"Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States ".

Passing things along in email is great to a point, but it will not by itself bring a great idea to fuition. If you share in this idea, we wanted you to read a great article about this proposal and help perhaps getting the ball rolling. For getting ANY constitutional amendment passed is a very hard and potentially long task as evident by the fact we only have 27 in over 200 years. But there in lies the beauty of how the Framers wrote the constitution. They envision a land that the power was in the hands of the PEOPLE not the government, but also protected itself from run amuk people by putting some big hurdles in place to change the Constitution.
